WASHINGTON, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- A mass shooting early Sunday morning in the U.S. state of Ohio has left nine people killed and at least 16 others injured, local police said.
The attack occurred in the city of Dayton at 1:00 a.m. (0600 GMT). "The shooter is deceased. There are 9 others also deceased. At least 16 others went to area hospitals with injuries," the Dayton Police Department tweeted.
"We had officers in the immediate vicinity when this shooting began and were able to respond and put an end to it quickly," it added. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is on scene to assist in the investigation.
This was the second mass shooting in the United States within 24 hours.
It came hours after an attack at the border city of El Paso in the state of Texas left 20 people dead and 26 wounded. A 21-year-old white male has been arrested.
