KIEV, June 27 (Xinhua) -- The Trilateral Contact Group on the settlement of the situation in eastern Ukraine has reached an agreement on a fresh round of ceasefire starting on July 1, a spokesperson for Kiev's delegate said on Wednesday.
Darka Olifer, the spokesperson for Ukraine's representative in the group Leonid Kuchma, wrote on Facebook that the ceasefire will be launched to ensure the security of civilians during the grain harvesting campaign.
The planned ceasefire marked the latest attempt to bring peace to eastern Ukraine, where the conflict between the Ukrainian government troops and pro-independence armed groups has been raging since April 2014.
Previously, the conflicting parties have declared more than 30 rounds of truce, which helped to ease the hostilities.
The Contact Group is a diplomatic group of representatives from Ukraine, Russia and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe that was formed to facilitate a peaceful solution to the conflict.
