MADRID, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Espanyol coach David Gallego was pleased with his side and with recent arrival Matias Vargas in particular after a 3-0 win away to Luzern all but assured their place in the final play-off round of the Europa League.
Goals from Facundo Ferreyra, Didac Vila and Vargas gave the Spanish club a comfortable win in a game where Wu Lei played only the last 20 minutes.
"I am satisfied because we have got a good result for next week's return leg and the team continues to improve both physically and tactically," said Gallego.
"There are still 90 minutes left in the tie and we have to now prepare for a tough week in which we will have games on Thursday and Sunday and we want to be in the best possible shape," he added.
The Espanyol coach had special praise for Vargas, who joined from Argentinean club Velez Sarsfield over the summer and will compete with Wu Lei for a place in the starting 11.
"He is bringing a lot of competition to the squad as he is a player who can win you games. He has a lot of personality on the ball and he looks to combine in attack. Bit by bit he is finding his rhythm, but at the moment, he is another player among us," said the coach, who also praised Ferreyra, who opened the scoring and was replaced by Wu Lei in the 70th minute.
"We are not just 18 players, but the entire squad and all of them can give us something. Facundo is doing well, but there are no first choice players or substitutes in my squad," commented Gallego.
