CHONGWE, Zambia, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese-funded milling plant project would help to stabilise mealie meal prices in Zambia, a district official told Xinhua on Friday.
Chongwe municipal council deputy mayor, Evans Mhambi described the project as a game-changer in the making.
"The milling plant being constructed in Ntandabale ward of Chongwe was on course. It has also created employment for the locals during the construction period. This is very gratifying. We are confident that the Zambia/China relationship will continue to help improve infrastructure in Chongwe," he said.
Mhambi further observed that, the milling plant once completed and operational would help stabilise the price of the staple food, mealie meal.
High mealie prices could be curbed through such initiatives, he said, adding that he could not wait to see the construction works completed on schedule so that the benefits trickle down to the district and beyond.
