BEIRUT, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Russian Ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Zasypkin said on Saturday that Israel cannot win a war against Hezbollah.
"Israel would be mistaken to think that it can win a war against Hezbollah and that the resistance is weak, because both Israel and Hezbollah are exerting much efforts to increase their confrontation capacities," Zasypkin was quoted as saying by Elnashra, an online independent newspaper.
The ambassador said that any war will lead to a big number of casualties and heavy damages for Lebanon and Israel.
"We should create the right atmosphere to go to negotiations and reach a peace process instead of going to war," he said.
The attack launched by Israeli drones on Beirut's southern suburbs last Sunday raised concerns about the possibility of the eruption of a new war between Lebanon and Israel.
On Aug. 25, an Israeli drone was brought down over the southern suburbs of Beirut, while a second one exploded in the air, causing severe damage to a media center belonging to Hezbollah.
This was the first clear Israeli attack on Lebanon since 2006, when Israel fought a 34-day bloody war with the Iranian-backed Hezbollah forces.
