HONG KONG, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Fashion Summit (HK) 2019 kicked off here on Thursday, gathering over 50 delegates worldwide from apparel manufacturing industry, academic circles and NGOs to discuss how to promote sustainable development.
With a theme of "Achieving the Goals", the two-day summit aims to raise public understanding and awareness on the role of the fashion industry, provide a platform for insiders to exchange insights, and catalyze collaboration of industries.
The summit is co-organized by the Hong Kong Clothing Industry Training Authority, the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel and other institutions. Insiders participate in a total of six keynote speeches and 10 panel discussions to address the issues of sustainable fashion development.
Shevanthi Fernando who works for a Sri Lanka-based lingerie manufacturer said: "I hope that governments can introduce policies for sustainability development on manufacturing, like investing."
Manuel Baigori, a senior director of sustainability division at a clothing company known for jeans, said that his company was devoted to use innovation and efficiency to upgrade the whole industry on sustainable development.
"We also share our experience with other companies to push the whole industry to produce clean jeans," said Baigori.
