CHANGZHOU, China, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- World No.1 Kento Momota of Japan swept Indonesia's Tommy Sugiarto in straight sets to reach the men's singles quarterfinals of the 2019 Badminton China Open here on Thursday.
Momota took 36 minutes to breeze past unseeded Sugiarto 21-10, 21-11. The Japanese controlled the game and left his rival no chances.
"It was not that easy. He was a powerful player," said Momota. "I feel in good condition now and I will prepare for tomorrow's match."
The top seed will face his teammate Kanta Tsuneyama in the quarterfinals, who beat Malaysia's Liew Daren 21-12, 21-19 Thursday and knocked out Viktor Axelsen on Tuesday.
"We know each other's strength very well and that will cause stress for me," said Momota.
As for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, the 25-year-old said that, since it is almost a year away, he doesn't have any specific plans at the moment. Enditem
