TALUQAN, Afghanistan, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- A Taliban local leader was killed in a clash with the Afghan security forces in northern Takhar province on Tuesday, the local authorities said.
Mohammad Jawad Hejri, a provincial government spokesman, told Xinhua that key local militant leader Qari Mahmoud, who was the outfit's complaints committee in charge in Takhar, was killed and one of his bodyguards was seriously injured in an armed clash erupted in Bandar-e-Aykhanum area of the province early Tuesday.
According to the spokesman, the slain militant had escaped several security forces' sieges in the province, 245 km north of the country's capital Kabul.
He gave no details if security forces or civilians suffered casualties.
The Taliban militant group has not made comment on the report yet.
