RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Striker Bergson da Silva scored a late equalizer as relegation-threatened Ceara earned a 1-1 home draw with Vasco da Gama in the Brazilian Serie A championship on Saturday.
Da Silva fired in from close-range in the 81st minute after goalkeeper Fernando Miguel parried away Fabinho's long-range effort.
Rossi Pereira had given the visitors an early lead at the Castelao in Fortaleza with a first-time finish at the far post after Richard Candido's cross.
The result extended Vasco's unbeaten league run under former Real Madrid manager Vanderlei Luxemburgo to five matches. The Rio de Janeiro outfit are now 11th in the 20-team standings, five points shy of the direct qualification places for next year's Copa Libertadores. Ceara are 15th, just two points clear of the drop zone.
Earlier, Corinthians and Santos remained third and fifth, respectively, after a goalless draw at Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo.?
