BERLIN, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Volha Mazuronak secured the gold medal in the women's marathon after clocking 2 hours 26 minutes 22 seconds at the inaugural multi sport European Championships in Berlin's city center on Sunday.
Mazuronak shrugged off second placed Celemence Calvin (2:26:28), who took the silver medal, followed by Czech Republic's Eva Vrabcova-Nyvltova with a national record of 2 hours 26 minutes 31 seconds.
The first edition of the European Championships feature seven sports including aquatics events, rowing, gymnastics, cycling, triathlon and golf in Glasgow and athletics in Berlin. The competition will have more than 4,500 athletes competing for 187 gold medals until August 12.
