TOKYO, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares opened higher Wednesday on the weaker yen against the U.S. dollar and gains of the technology shares overnight.
As of 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 193.64 points, or 0.85 percent, from Tuesday to 22,891.00.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 12.66 points, or 0.73 percent, at 1,757.71.
Gainers were led by oil and coal product, transportation equipment and electric appliance issues.
