VIENNA, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Austrian capital Vienna saw a record 16.5 million overnight stays at hotels during 2018, an increase of 6.3 percent year on year, a Vienna tourist official said.
Around 82 percent of the overnight stays were international ones, with German tourists booking the most nights, the highest-turnover visitors to the Austrian capital, statistics from the Vienna Tourism showed.
Vienna Tourist Board Director Norbert Kettner told a press conference on Wednesday that during the first 11 months of 2018, hotels in Vienna also saw record total revenue of 793 million euros (903 million U.S. dollars) up a significant 11.8 percent over the same period in 2017.
Kettner noted that the city had an excellent year hosting congresses, including hosting the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2018, which added to the hotel stays.
