MACAO, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Chief Executive of China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Chui Sai On met on Saturday with Han Kuo-yu, mayor of Kaohsiung, China's Taiwan, on promoting economic and trade exchanges between the two regions.
Chui said that after its returning to the motherland 20 years ago, the Macao SAR has made great progresses in such areas as economic development, social stability, people's livelihoods as well as cultural development, making Macao one of the richest and safest cities in the world.
The recent-issued Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area defines clearly the role of Macao in national development strategy, and provides new spaces and more opportunities for Macao's development, he added.
He noted that as Macao and Taiwan have deep historical relationship with close contacts in terms of people-to-people exchanges and cooperation in various sectors, it is necessary to push forward the friendly relations between their peoples, so as to continue to improve their well-being.
Han said that he was impressed by Macao's rapid socio-economic development, adding that there was great potential for cooperation between the two places, particularly in the exports of agricultural products.
He hoped that Macao and Taiwan would strengthen their economic and trade exchanges, and promote bilateral cooperation in tourism and culture.
